Direct investment has been drawn due to the system

To discover animations which can be marketed in the global market and provide support for its production, 'Global Animation Project 2009' kicks off with recipients selected.

Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA, President & CEO: Lee Jae-woong) hosted 'Global Animation Project 2009' at its headquarters located in Sangam-dong Sept. 1 at 2 p.m.
For the section of full-length animation, two works such as 'the Hen that Went outside the Yard (MK Pictures) and PiyoPiyo Friends (Roivisual) have been chosen. The former is the first animation made based on know-how of MK Pictures, a production company known for its 'JSA - Joint Security Area' and 'Forever the Moment'. Also, expectations have already been raised high for the animation.

As for the pilot section, 7 animations have been picked. They include 'Wonder Girls ChicaLoca (Project 109)', 'Timing (Hyoin Animation)', 'Baby Vorticella, Eco (Ronnin)', 'Magic Girl and Cow (NoworNever)', 'Baby Heros (Ashubia Animation Production)', 'Dinoops(Wiz Creative)', and 'Botos (Ffango Entertoyment)'.
The production of those selected works will be started with agreements signed and the first round of fund provided in this month. Accordingly, they will get supports for participation in local and overseas events and pre-sale such as MIPTV Showcase in April, exhibition of the Seoul Character Licensing Fair in July, and MIPCOM in Oct.

"This assessment was a chance to see whether Korean animations are marketable or not. In addition, we began to have positive view on the prospect of Korea's animations, markets and studios", said foreign judges in responsible for distribution and investment of animation studios such as Disney.

As part of project for production and marketing support to nurture promising global stars in the area of cultural content, 'Global Animation Project 2009' is originally based on 'Star Project 2002'.
Since its name was changed in 2008 funds have been intensively spent for several purposes in order to create business models which can be successful in the global market. They are as follows: to promote local animation creation power through co-production & to secure overseas distribution channels and discover animations which can be submitted to animation and films festivals & win awards.

Since its introduction of the Evaluation System in 2005 it has become a venue to invite leading marketers from Warner Bros. and Disney to assess marketability of local animations in the global market. Through this system, those invited for the evaluation have proposed biz-matching for investment and co-production. As a result, famous foreign production companies have established contracts with their Korean counterparts. And they are as follows: Rocket Boy & Toro (2006, the UK), Tic Toc House (2006, the UK), and Dino Mom (2008, the US).

"Only those survived fierce competition can be recipients of 'Global Animation Project'. Achievement has been made regarding the project. EBS of Korea and CBS of the US have aired 'Noonbori and the Super 7', one of the recipients of the Project 2006 throughout the US", said Lee Jae-woong, president of KOCCA, "KOCCA will strive to provide all the necessary supports including production funds so as to help the recipients to be successful in the global market".
