The crime action flick "Master" took just 12 days from its release to draw 5 million viewers, reaching the milestone on Sunday.

The film opened on Dec. 21 to much fanfare due to its star-studded cast, which includes Lee Byung-hun, Gang Dong-won and Kim Woo-bin.

It reached the 5 million mark faster than any previous December release, eclipsing "The Attorney", which achieved the feat 13 days after its release in December 2013 and went on to draw 11.37 million viewers in total. "Ode to My Father", which attracted over 14 million moviegoers, took 15 days from its December 2014 release to reach the mark.

"Master" continued to dominate the box office during the New Year weekend, despite a slew of new releases including the Hollywood blockbuster "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story".
