'The Attorney' Set for North American Release

Less than one month after it premiered, "The Attorney" has already eclipsed the 9-million viewer mark here in Korea. It is expected to sell a total of 10 million tickets later this week, thus cementing its status as a blockbuster.

This is familiar territory for lead actor Song Kang-ho, who last year had two films -- "The Face Reader" and "Snowpiercer" -- hit the 9-million mark, although neither was able to achieve double-digit status.

Meanwhile, the popularity of "The Attorney" in Korea has caught the attention of the North American market. The film is set to open on Feb. 7 in 14 major cities including Los Angeles, New York and Canada.

The film, loosely based on former President Roh Moo-hyun, is about a man from a humble background who becomes a successful tax lawyer in Busan in the early 1980s but gives up wealth and reputation to become a human rights lawyer.
