'Winter Sonata' heroine faints out of exhaustion

Korean soap opera star Choi Ji-woo, best known for her leading role in "Winter Sonata", wildly popular in Japan, fainted Wednesday night from fatigue and was forced to cancel her trip to Tokyo, Kim Hyun-mo, the manager of the actress' agency Yedang Entertainment told The Korea Herald.

Choi canceled her Tokyo press conference and other events which had been organized by the Korea National Tourism Organization, Kim said. She may need to cancel events beyond next week too, he said.

Korea and Japan share a long, acrimonious past, but have designated 2005 as the Year of Korea-Japan Friendship to mark the 40th anniversary of a formal diplomatic relationship. Choi has been active in various promotional events in both Korea and Japan.

"She feels extremely sorry about what happened, as she has never missed a single schedule, as far as the promotion of the country and its tourism are concerned", Kim said. Her extremely tight and very heavy overseas schedule has worsened her health, he added.

The actress had returned to Korea earlier Wednesday from a trip to five countries, including the United States, Kim said. She lost her consciousness shortly after arriving at her home and was taken to the nearby hospital, and is now resting at home. The actress was being photographed in different countries for her upcoming promotional photo album.
