A festival of Korean manhwas, decorating L.A.

'Centenary of Korean Comics' in the US
'Comics Room of Memory', 'Screening of Manhwa-inspired Movies', and 'Writers' Workshop' await visitors
Korean manhwa, a blanket term for Korean comics and cartoons, visits LA with its imaginative power and rich visuals, commemorating the centennial of its birth.
Accordingly, the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA, President & CEO: Lee Jae-woong) hosts an exhibition 'Manhwa 100: Centenary of Korean Comics' from 18th to 2th, next month with the Korea Cultural Center Los Angeles (President: Kim Jae-won).

The opening ceremony is held on 18th 6:30 p.m. (local time). This commemorative event, which is held in the L.A. center and the Korea Center, consists of 'Panel Display of 100 Years by Chronology' which provides an overview of the history of Korean manhwa, 'Popular Cartoonists Exhibition', 'Screening of Manhwa-inspired Movies and Animations', and 'Comics Room of Memory' displaying manhwas in both Korean and English.
Above all, Hyung Min-woo, writer of 'Priest', visits the exhibition to introduce his works. Priest is produced as a movie in Hollywood. His autograph session will be held at the Korea Cultural Center Los Angeles on 18th, the opening day and workshop in the same place on 19th from 2 p.m.
In addition, on the performance stage on the 3rd floor of the center in L.A. will be Korean animations and manhwa turned movies. 'Pororo, the little Penguin' and 'Pucca' will be there for children visitors on 20th and on 27th 11 a.m. respectively. 'Hello Schoolgirl' and 'Tazza: The High Rollers' will be screened on 20th 1 p.m. and on 27th 1 p.m., respectably.

Not to be outdone, the Korea Center boasts the potential that manhwa has as a platform for OSMU (One Source Multi Use), introducing on-line game versions of manhwa such as Lineage and Yul Hyul Kang Ho and Korean popular characters such as Mashimaro, Pucca, and Dooly the Baby Dinosaur.

"Korean manhwa has grown as the Korean history evolves. It is a source content which has developed Korea's cultural industry of today", said President Lee. "We at KOCCA will not spare any effort to support the commercialization of Korean manhwas and their overseas expansion, considering this event is designed to introduce Korean manhwas to the US's cultural industry", he added.
