A Korean reality show with Lee Seung-gi and Kang Ho-dong – "1 Night 2 Days"

There are two kinds of traveling: one, you sit on a beach with white sand, looking out at the turquoise water, rubbing layers of sunblock on your skin under the shade of palm trees lazily hanging over you; two, you get your adrenaline pumped as you compete in unexpected adventures as you seek to expose yourself to the rawest experiences unique to the place you visit. As tempting as both options may sound, you must ask yourself, 'which of those experiences will be recalled with greater appreciation in the future?' – obviously the latter without a question. A Korean reality-variety show, "1 Night 2 Days", featuring five wildly entertaining male celebrities (Kang Ho-dong as the main host, Lee Seung-gi, Lee Soo-geun, Eun Ji-won, and Kim Jong-min) is all about creating memories that will forever stay with them as the crew makes overnight trips to various sites in Korea.

"1 Night 2 Days", created in 2007, is one of two segments in the KBS program called "Happy Sunday" (the other is "The Qualities of a Man"). Beautiful scenery and distinctive cultural practices found in every location quite explicitly deliver the central message of the program: that every little region in Korea carries its own individual beauty, though an individual may not easily recognize the fact to appreciate it. In addition to the views captured on screen, what truly intrigues the audience to spontaneously jump on a train for a short vacation, is the five characters in the show – what they make out of their time while traveling.

One of the most entertaining parts of the program is the game of Bok-bul-bok. It is possibly the most critical aspect in the show, for the tension built as each member tries to win the game is what makes the whole program so enjoyable to the extent of being hilarious.

Five grown-ups suddenly transform into five little children who are simply joyful to be out in nature and are having really good time. The game often determines who will be getting food – varying from a snack to a full-course meal – or who is to sleep where. The losers are destined to receive cruel penalties; to define the word "cruel", it usually means sleeping outside in a tent on a frigid night which it is 2 degrees Fahrenheit, or starving after 10 miles of hiking solely to taste the very special dish of the specific region.

The show provides the audience an opportunity to look back at what they have easily overlooked at because of its ordinariness. Watching "1 Night 2 Days", you will find yourself back in your childhood, being reminded to appreciate what surrounds you and recognize what you have forgotten to recognize as you got older.

After winning the Korea Entertainment Art Awards in 2008, "1 Night 2 Days" captured the KBS Entertainment Awards for Best Program Award in 2010. The show will continue throughout this year, and we look forward to finding out where those five celebrities will bring us next.
