To K-drama fans who are not familiar with the term, "baekchimi" can be translated nicely as an air of ingenuous beauty. Frankly, it basically means "bimbo" or "blonde". It's not a complete, out-of-line insult, but it is definitely not a positive description For instance, some women use this concept to seem innocent, but can easily turn into an empty-headed image.

Actor Sol Kyung-gu explained his reasoning along with his apology on his official fan website. "I want to convey my sincere apology as I used inappropriate expression towards miss Kim Seolhyun. […] I didn't mean ill intention at all, but to express that she is pure-hearted and full of potential like a white drawing paper. It was my short thinking that resulted in such instance. I've apologized to miss Kim Seolhyun and I will be giving an official apology at the press conference and interviews".

He continued, "From now on, I'll be more careful in my choice of words and I'm grateful for your concern and critics. I'll be living with heart that's ready to learn my short comings. Again, I'm sorry".

The original verbal misstep occured on the 28th at the press conference for the movie, "Memoir of a Murderer". He mentioned actress Kim Seolhyun with whom he worked in the movie. "Miss Kim Seolhyun has a pure white image. Since she debuted early on in her life, she could be mature for her age, but she does not have a single hint of that. She has 'baekchimi.' It's a good thing for an actress to have that".

When people reacted with negative comments towards his statement, actor Sol Kyung-gu quickly apologized for his mistake.
