[HanCinema's Travel Diaries] Busan's picturesque Gwanggalli Beach

2017/10/28 | | Permalink

My time in Busan wasn't only spent at the 22nd Busan International Film Festival, but also in exploring the beautiful seaside city itself. I met up with friends to wander around with camera in hand and belly empty in order to try all that Busan had to offer. One particularly lovely day we traveled to Gwangalli Beach, a beach famous for its fine sand, Gwangandaegyo Bridge, magnificent skyline, and bustling social and shopping scenes...More

[HanCinema's Film Review] "RV: Resurrected Victims"

2017/10/28 | | Permalink

Seven years ago Myeong-sook (played by Kim Hae-sook) was murdered. From that day forward her son Jin-hong (played by Kim Rae-won) resolved to find justice, not only for his mother, but for everyone. Fortunately he was already a prosecutor by that time, so mostly he just became more determined to resolve criminal matters in the best interest of justice. Anyway, so Jin-hong is going about minding his own business when suddenly, he gets a phone call. Myeong-sook has come back to life- and then things take an unexpected turn for the violent...More

[HanCinema's Film Review] "The Poet and The Boy"

2017/10/28 | | Permalink

For the minor creative class of the bourgeoise, life can be tough. With excessive introspection comes an excessive desire on the part of a person to justify their own existence, when their life is so humdrum and ordinary there's barely even anything to gossip about. So it is with the Poet (played by Yang Ik-june) and the Wife (played by Jeon Hye-jin-II). They got married because they were getting old. They want to have a baby because they might not be able to soon. And the Wife wants the Poet to start seriously writing poetry so that they can feel special...More

[HanCinema's Film Review] "Lost to Shame"

2017/10/28 | | Permalink

Song-joon (played by Nam Yeon-woo) is a stage actor. Or at least, he wants to be a stage actor. The last time Song-joon was in a stage play was several years ago when he was still going to school. But with every reason to be pessimistic concerning future prospects, Song-joon is steadfast in his determination to score the lead role in Dark Life, a major play about a young man coming out as a transwoman...More

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Mad Dog" Episode 6

2017/10/27 | | Permalink

"Mad Dog" drops some big revelations in episode six and although their logic does not quite stand, they radically shift the focus of the dog team's investigations while at the same time spurring major doubts about the story we have seen so far. The team follows Min-joon as he once more goes solo, but a surprising contact brings them back together and adds a new spark to the mystery...More

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Single Wife" Episode 12

2017/10/27 | | Permalink

So "Single Wife" ends up concluding the logical direction it took with the previous episode that barely touched on the main conflict at all, and brings upon a final glorious comeuppance against In-hwa. I remain baffled just as much as I did last time as to what exactly happened to the premise. We had certainly received hints that In-hwa was a corporate vulture, but those barely even registered as a subplot. Now Hyo-rim and some bald guy I'm not even sure has a name have to work together to bring her dad back to stop her...More

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "While You Were Sleeping - 2017" Episodes 19-20

2017/10/26 | | Permalink

Hyang-mi (played by Park Jin-joo) works in the prosecutor's office with Jae-chan. Her only real purpose in the story is to provide office gossip commentary on Jae-chan's career path. At least, that was her only purpose. Now, Hyang-mi has decided that Jae-chan is actually super cool and awesome. This leads to some funny scenes wherein we get to see Jae-chan express this newfound love of Jae-chan in very cute ways while Jae-chan, dork that he is, accidentally encourages her...More
