Broadcasting Commission Launches "TV Korea Showcase" in Indonesia

The Korea Broadcasting Commission said on May 27 that it had launched the "TV Korea Showcase 2005" in Jakarta, Indonesia to promote the "hallyu" boom in Southeast Asia. The purpose of the showcase, which will last through June 2, is to introduce Korean broadcasting programs to Indonesia, Thailand and India, and establish marketing channels in that region.

The commission said the showcase was attended by high-profile Indonesian television producers and distributors, including the head of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission, Mr. Menayang. To bolster the popularity of Korean stars in Indonesia, actor Kim Jae-won held a fan meeting at the showcase.

Participants of the event included seven ground-wave broadcasters including KBS, MBC, SBS, EBS and their affiliates, six program providers (PP) including Arirang TV, CJ Media, Dong-a TV, C&M and YTN, the three independent production and distribution companies AK Entertainment, Eight Peaks and Samhwa Production, and several animation production firms including Character Plan, Digital Emation and Iconix.

In a meeting between a high-ranking official from the Korea Broadcasting Commission and Mr. Menayang, the two sides discussed new services resulting from the convergence of broadcasting and communication technologies, and agreed to promote broadcasting exchanges between Korea and Indonesia.
