Cannes to Officially Invite Hong Sang-soo's New Film The new feature film by local auteur Hong Sang-soo will receive an official invitation to the renowned Cannes Film Festival in France.
"Woman is the Future of Man", a film about two men who decide to look for an old girlfriend both had dated, will be in the competition section of the festival, according to Cinewise, the promotional firm for the film.

In previous years at Cannes, Hong, who made "Woman" with funding provided by the French investment company MK2, also received the Un Certain Regard prize, a non-competition award for two films: "The Power of Kangwon Province" and "Virgin Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors".

"Woman" will be the third local film to officially compete at Cannes, after "Chunhyang" and "Chihwaseon", both by Im Kwon-taek.

Im's new film "Low Life" is also expected to be invited to compete at the event, which will be held from May 12 through 23, but whether the film will be ready by then is unclear.

The official competition list will be released by Cannes on Wednesday. "Woman is the Future of Man" will open locally on May 5.
