Boys are not the only ones who can leave their band days behind. Women from popular girl groups such as Park Jung-ah of Jewelry and Ayumi of Sugar are also going solo.
Park adopted a rocker chick image with the release of her first album "Yeah". She also experimented with a more rock-oriented sound, as she tried to distance herself from Jewelry, which is currently taking a break.
On the other hand, Ayumi of Sugar has released a digital single "Cutie Honey", a remake of a song by Japanese pop star Koda Kumi.
However, the most successful female singer to come from an all-girl group has to be Lee Hyori. Lee used to be a member of the popular group Fin.K.L. In 2003, she went solo, releasing her first album "Stylish… E", which eventually became a smashing success.
Earlier this month, Lee reportedly agreed to sign a contract with M-Net Entertainment for 1.5 billion won, which makes her the highest paid female singer in the country.
Another former Fin.K.L. member, Ock Joo-hyun, has also released two albums, but is known more for her dramatic weight loss and advocacy of yoga.
Another successful girl group S.E.S. saw two of its members, Eugene (Eugene) and Bada, release solo albums.
