The Hermit Kingdom, aka North Korea, needless to say, has strict borders that prevent not only individuals from freely crossing, but goods and cultural products, too. This injunction seems particularly bizarre given just how fantastic the South is at spreading its cultural wares, and increasingly the South's exports are finding their way over the border, much to the pleasure of some North Koreans: "Of particular concern to the regime is the fact that cadres in the leadership class enjoy the dramas and are secretly contributing to the expanding viewership. Not only do the cadres loosely enforce the regulations against viewing the dramas, they are directly involved in the production and transportation of the banned media".

"Fascinating cultural experiences await at the center of Gangnam"

This past week the "C-Festival 2016" took place at the Convention and Exhibition Center in Samseong-dong that contained a wide range of exhibitions ranging from technology to desserts, once again demonstrating that South Korea is setting an example to the world with regards to cultural exchange and the global spread of ideas and products. "Lotus Lantern Festival to lighten up Seoul"

In celebration of Buddha's birthday (May 21), Seoul will host the Lotus Lantern Festival that will run for there days: "The festival dates back to the Silla Kingdom (B.C. 57-935 A.D.) and was conducted as the Lotus Lantern Assembly in Goryeo Kingdom (918-1392). It continued as the Lantern Celebration (Gwandeung-nori) during the Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910)". The Korea Times reports that the theme for this year's event is youth.
