More South Koreans are choosing to travel alone, according to Hankyoreh. A 2016 report by Korea Tourism Organization revealed that 14.4% of surveyed adults travelled, or had plans to travel, alone. "The current 'YOLO' [an acronym meaning 'you only live once'] trend also appears to have played a part", said Lee Seung-shin, a Konkuk University professor.
