[HanCinema's Drama Review] "My Love from the Star" Episode 19

Just when I had forgotten why "My Love from the Star" has a murder subplot in the first place, this episode comes along to give a reminder. It exists to make Min-joon act in a ridiculous contrived way against whatever stupid transparent scheme Jae-kyoung has come up with this week. And this one really takes the cake- the only apparent purpose of the plan is to do damage to Min-joon. It doesn't actually help Jae-kyoung at all. If anything it makes Jae-kyoung's situation worse. Who the heck makes an announcement like that at a press conference?

Scratch that. What kind of benefits plan are Jae-kyoung's henchmen getting? They're literally fighting a superhero here. It's one thing to try and get ahead in life by committing murder. It's quite another to try and get ahead in life by committing murder on the behest of another guy who's currently in the news for facing criminal prosecution. At some point the gravy train's going to end here, guys. Maybe it's time to get off before you get sentenced to life in prison.

Now, granted, the purpose of this drama has, as always, been to detail the loveline between Min-joon and Song-I. It's supposed to be noble that he makes this sacrifice for her. Except it's not really much of a sacrifice at all. He's already been exposing himself publically the last several episodes. And for it to happen this time is horribly contrived in any case. Remember at the beginning of the drama, when Min-joon made a point of running out of sight before teleporting? He doesn't.

You may also remember that time he evaded a potential scandal by temporarily frying everybody's cameras. This ability, too, is forgotten. I must emphasize here- it doesn't matter how compelling the romantic aspects of a drama if all the important stuff in the story is dependent either on people acting like idiots or the writer choosing to ignore previously established continuity. This is a stupid crisis, plain and simple.

The only nice thing I can write here is that the problems related to these storylines appear to be over. By the time we get to the episode's end the focus is once more on whether or not Min-joon should leave at all. That's how it should have been from the beginning really. There's so much point dumb stuff going on in this episode I'm having trouble remembering what the good points even were. It is that bad, and that annoying.
