[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Oh My Ghostess" Episode 8

The cat's out of the bag. Seon-woo kissed Bong-seon and there is no way that he, Bong-seon, or Soon-ae realizes what that means. There is genuine affection at play here and it hits all three of them harder than expected.

What lead to the kiss was the long-awaited pairing between Bong-seon and Soon-ae . They deduce that one method can achieve both of their goals: win over Seon-woo, banish Soon-ae's virginity and snag Bong-seon her man. It makes for a winning friendship between Bong-seon and Soon-ae, two lonely girls in need of friendship and some happiness. Soon-ae finally communicates with Bong-seon who is no longer left out of her own life. While both grow, in some ways they regress. Bong-seon doesn't realize that she has no need of Soon-ae. Who she is pleases Seon-woo more than enough. Soon-ae doesn't realize that losing her virginity isn't what she actually needs - at least that's what I'm guessing.

A murderous Sung-jae is afoot, hiding evidence of the car accident that robbed Eun-hee of her legs and her dancing; he also is in possession of Soon-ae's phone, which could indicate that she was the witness for Eun-hee's accident. The question is: Is Sung-jae the culprit or is there a ghost possessing him? These are bigger questions that Soon-ae's virginity. Also, one cannot forget her tired, sad little family that has received new life with her return in Bong-seon's body.

In any case, the episode focuses on Seon-woo's gradual realization about how he feels about Bong-seon. He first needs to realize that he no longer likes So-hyung and then the fear of losing her when she is trapped forces him to reckon with the terror he felt that she was hurt. Watching him walk through his thoughts and sort through his emotions was a highlight of the episode - his slow realization was worth the kiss at the end, especially when Soon-ae left Bong-seon and Seon-woo to share it. Whether or not she did it on purpose is another question, but the kiss was a culmination and hopefully it will change the tide of the relationships, supernatural and otherwise.

Aside from the romance, the chefs at Seon-woo's restaurant are amusing in their own right, especially insecure and needy Min-soo who really just wants to be loved and accepted. His antics spearhead a lot of the workplace shenanigans that are quite fun.

We've passed the halfway mark and now it's time to delve into darker territory. There will definitely be some cuteness as the lovebirds realize they're in love, but we also need to reckon with Soon-ae's reason for remaining on earth. Why can she not pass on?
