Title: "The Hero" (previously "Thunder Man")

Genre: Family, Drama

Length: 98 min

Release Date: 2013/10/08

Director: Kim Bong-han

Stars: Oh Jung-se, Park Chul-min, Jung Eun-pyo, Shin Ji-soo

The Short and Sweet:  A single dad who plays a super hero on T.V. decides to really become "Thunder Man" for his son after his show gets cancelled.

The last two years have been extremely busy for actor Oh Jung-se, who, by the end of this year, would have appeared in fourteen local dramas and films. In Kim Bong-han's debut film "The Hero", however, Jeong-se takes on the lead as Joo-yeon, a television actor (perfect!) who plays the superhero/dad "Thunder Man". Joo-yeon is a single father trying to raise his son right, and when his show gets cancelled due to poor ratings, he tries to step up and be that real role model his boy needs.

Title: "Hwayi : A Monster Boy"

Genre: Action, Thriller

Length: 125 min

Release Date: 2013/10/09

Director: Jang Joon-hwan ("Save the Green Planet")

Stars: Kim Yun-seok, Yeo Jin-goo, Cho Jin-woong, Jang Hyun-sung, Kim Sung-kyun

The Short and Sweet: A young boy is raised by five talented fathers into a life of violent crime, but begins to question his past when he is forced to pull the trigger on their latest job.

Cinephiles and festival junkies loved director Jang Joon-hwan 2003 cult hit "Save the Green Planet", a zany sci-fi comedy about paranoia, power, and the end of the world. Since then Jang has been rather quite on the directing front, contributing only to the 2010 omnibus drama "Camellia"; but now, however, Jang has return from the mothership with a dark action thriller feature that looks delightfully disturbing.

Yeo Jin-goo plays Hwai, a young boy who's had a rather unique upbringing. Five talented criminals raised the lad and each imparted their own knowledge/skills to him. The groups leader (Seok-tae played by Kim Yun-seok) is cold and persuasive, and when he forces Hwai to pull the trigger on their latest job, Hwai begins to question who the couple was exactly and investigates why he feels so uneasy about the killings. It's been a decade since Jang blew us away with his sci-fi mash-up, but hopes are high here that Jang will be able to show us a, slightly more commercial, quality feature here with "Hwayi : A Monster Boy".

Title: "Red Vacance Black Wedding 2"

Genre: Thriller

Release Date: 2013/10/10

Director: Choi Wee-an ("Love in 42.9", "Today and the Other Days")

Stars: Moon Ji-yeong-I, Kim Jae-rok, Yu Ann

The Short and Sweet:  An unmarried woman is harassed by a persistent suitor, a dangerous man who doesn't take no for answer.

Choi's previously two films "Love in 42.9" (2012) and "Today and the Other Days" (2009) both failed at the box office, claiming less than 4,000 admissions between them. Both features straddle the line between drama and fantasy, but Choi has yet to find the right balance needed for a winning formula. This week will see the release of Choi's third film "Red Vacance Black Wedding 2", a sequel to Kim Tae-sik and Park Chul-soo's 2011 drama "Red Vacance Black Wedding" which described immoral liaisons with comedy and erotic teasings tossed in.

In Choi's new film, Moon Ji-yeong plays Hong-chae, a young woman who has never been married before and is unforgivingly pursued by Jeom-dong (Kim Jae-rok), an unstable man who gets messy when rejected. Hong-chae tries to get him to leave her alone, but Jeom-dong is obsessed and finds new and disturbing ways to enter her life – through her mother.
