[HanCinema's News] Jo Yoon-hee Emerges as the Surprise Villainess of "The Escape of the Seven"

Jo Yoon-hee has struggled to get back to work ever since her marriage to Lee Dong-gun back in 2017. The pair had met in the weekend drama "The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop" in 2016 where they played leading roles, and their fictional romance turned real, with their having a daughter by December of 2017. This marked Jo Yoon-hee taking an effective break from work with her next role in "Beautiful Life, Wonderful Life" in 2019 as her only major post-marriage credit.

But that changed with the release of "The Escape of the Seven" this weekend. Jo Yoon-hee's character, described only as an art teacher in early material, was revealed to have a surprising sinister side once the drama actually aired. Her character's two-facedness, though hardly unique in the intense thriller, is a major change from the actress's image, in part due to changing trends in the industry itself compared to when she was last active.

However, following a difficult divorce in 2020, and uncertainty whether Jo Yoon-hee would ever appear in any acting project again, fans are impressed by her new approach. Though not a lead as used to be customary for her, Jo Yoon-hee's passion works to elevate the work as a whole. With inaugural ratings of 6% and 6.1%, "The Escape of the Seven" is off to a strong start as fans hope this marks a return by Jo Yoon-hee to other projects.
