[HanCinema's News] "The Roundup" Breaks Ten Million Viewer Mark

According to figures released by the Korean Film Council, "The Roundup" has finally hit the ten million viewer mark. The ten millionth admission was logged on June 11th at approximately 11:50 AM Korean time, a Saturday. As this is only the start of the weekend and the action cop film is still the overall box office leader, "The Roundup" is now in a strong position to hit the eleven million viewer mark as well. However, the ten million viewer mark is the more historically important one for South Korean films.

"The Roundup" is the twentieth film overall to sell this many tickets, and the first since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Parasite" in 2019 was the previous such accomplished film. "The Roundup" is also the third film featuring Ma Dong-seok to hit the ten million viewer benchmark, though his first as the lead. "Train to Busan" and "Along With the Gods: The Last 49 Days" had him as supporting cast.

Hopes were high for "The Roundup" even before its release, with a sequel currently titled "The Roundup: No Way Out" already being confirmed and filming set to begin later this month. "The Roundup" hit ten million viewers in its twenty-fifth day of availability. It is also now the best-performing South Korean film of all time to be released in May, beating the record previously set by "Parasite" in 2019.
