[Hot Takes from the Noonas] Yoon Kyun-sang and Kim Ji-suk face off in stills for "Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People"

The manes of glory are out in full force as Yoon Kyun-sang and Kim Ji-suk appear in the first stills from MBC's upcoming sageuk, "Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People".

"Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People" is a twist on the story of the Joseon era thief, Hong Gil-dong, set in the time of the cruel king, Yeonsangun. Kim Ji-suk will be stretching his acting muscles as Yeonsangun, the most hated king of the Joseon era, while Yoon Kyun-sang will take on his first leading role as the titular thief. Instead of stealing from the rich, Hong Gil-dong will steal the hearts of the Korean people, uniting them against the tyrannical Yeonsangun.

I'm not a fan of sageuks, but I like the idea of Kim Ji-suk playing the villain. I'm also curious to see Yoon Kyun-sang in a leading role, after he impressed viewers as Lee Jong-suk's older brother in "Pinocchio", and as Moo-hyeol, one of the dragons in "Six Flying Dragons". Rounding out the cast is Chae Soo-bin as a widow with a grudge against the king, and Lee Hanee as the king's calculating consort.

"Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People" will start its 30-episode run on January 30th, taking over the Monday-Tuesday time slot. I'll be checking in with this drama, if only to see if our two leading men can conquer the sageuk curse of terrible hair.
