Jung Yong-hwa to Lead Chinese Fundraiser

Jung Yong-hwa of boy band CNBLUE has been selected the face of an official Chinese campaign to promote education in impoverished rural areas.

Jung becomes the first foreign celebrity to promote a Chinese state campaign.

Now in its sixth year, the campaign involves celebrities and officials taking part in a week-long silent march around remote villages to raise funds for education.

Celebrities also perform at charity concerts.

"Jung appeals to young people, and we see him as a strong public figure who can have a positive impact on youngsters", said a campaign official.

"Although he is a foreigner, he is an artist who has brought joy to many with his music and warm heart".

Jung also became the first make Korean cover model of Chinese Elle and stars in the Chinese movie "Emperors Cook Up a Storm" as a chef.
