Kim stars as a North Korean defector in "Wild Goose Dreams", which opens at La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, California in September, her management agency said on Friday.

This is her first stage play. Directed by Leigh Silverman, it is set in Seoul and revolves around a North Korean defector who meets a South Korean man online whose family is abroad and falls in love with him.

The theater was founded in 1947 by several Hollywood actors including Gregory Peck.

"The play tells the story of ordinary people and their love for each other, which Americans can also relate to. It will be a new challenge for me", Kim said.

She starred in the Korean film "House of the Disappeared" early this year after finishing season 4 of the ABC soap opera "Mistresses" last year.
