Korean Designer Andre Kim Puts the Stars on the Catwalk

Korea's high-profile fashion designer Andre Kim showcased his designs for 2005 this week. Actors and athletes also joined him for a unique awards ceremony.
Korean designer Andre Kim has been creating fashions ever since he debuted in 1962. His distinctive and opulent style combining futuristic with classical themes led to his first international fashion show in Paris, France in 1966 to be followed by ones in Italy, the United States and Japan.

Each season Andre Kim's shows have become famous in Korea for featuring celebrities, including Kim Hee-sun, Choi Ji-woo and Won Bin. This year's was no exception with the designer himself even handing out his own personal tributes to globally successful Koreans.
"I picked the stars I have chosen to award today myself and not from a pre-selected list but from different fields like sport, television and cinema. As a designer and a citizen, I wanted to take the opportunity to reward the celebrities who have been helping to promote Korea internationally over the year".

"Normally awards are given by an organization or a group but this private award given by Andre Kim and special as it has a personal touch".
Some 30 stars attended the ceremony to receive awards before experiencing the designer's own fashion event.

"I feel honored and happy to receive an award with so many stars. I think it'll be a memorable evening".

"This is my second time to receive such an award. I believe I'm being awarded due to the success of the Pusan International Film Festival. I feel proud and honored as well".

As well as receiving an award TV drama actor Han Yae-seul even got to wear an extravagant wedding dress and strut her stuff on the catwalk as some of Korea's young and up-and-coming stars helped to showcase a selection of new designs at Andre Kim's fashion collection for 2005.
