Korean Violinist Appointed Concertmaster of Prestigious French Symphony Orchestra

Violinist Park Ji-yoon on Tuesday was appointed as the new concertmaster for the Orchestre National de France.

She became the first Korean to take the post at the highly acclaimed French orchestra. Maestro Chung Myung-whun served as a music director of the orchestra for 15 years from 2000 and handed the baton to young Finnish conductor Mikko Franck.

Park is a brilliant violinist in her early 30s, who won the top prize at the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition at the age of 18 in 2004. She has also placed at major international competitions, including the Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition in 2005 and the Queen Elizabeth Competition in 2009.

Park studied at the Conservatoire National de Paris and graduated from Mozarteum Salzburg.

She is currently a concertmaster of the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire.
