Local Film to Shoot in New Zealand

A domestic movie about a South Korean expedition team in Antarctica will begin filming in New Zealand next week.
Directed by Yim Phil-sung and starring popular actors Song Kang-ho and Yoo Ji-tae, "Namguk Ilgi (Antarctic Journal)" began production here recently. The actors and film crew will travel to New Zealand, where they will shoot the majority of the movie.

"Antarctic Journal" is a fictional account of a South Korean expedition team that sets out to reach the Pole of Inaccessibility, or the point most remote from all coasts of Antarctica. David Taylor, New Zealand ambassador to Seoul, hosted a reception for the director and actors at his residence, Thursday, to celebrate the film.

Two other recent local movies, "Silmido" and "Oldboy," were also partially filmed in New Zealand. "Antarctic Journal" will be released locally early next year.
