More than 5,000 high school seniors in Pohang still have no idea where they need to go next week to take their college entrance exam.

The exam was postponed nationwide at the last minute because venues were unsafe after a 5.4 magnitude earthquake in the southeastern port city on Wednesday.

Of the 12 designated test venues in Pohang, nine suffered damage including cracked walls.

Authorities continued to check the venues to determine whether they are structurally sound and can be fixed. But if more time is needed, education officials will have to find new venues somewhere else.

That would mean added inconvenience and stress for the students, who have already suffered the shock of seeing their exam this Thursday canceled at the last minute.

The government has promised to inform students of any venue changes no later than Tuesday, two days before the test.

If aftershocks continue at the present rate, the government is considering shuttling all 5,523 high school seniors in the city to another region.

The most likely venue is Daegu about 100 km away.
