K-pop duo TVXQ began their return to the spotlight with an event to meet fans at a hotel in Seoul on Monday after both completed their mandatory military service.

'U-Know' finished his military service in April and Changmin was discharged last week. They said the common perception that celebrities are given favorable treatment by the military motivated them to work harder in carrying out their duties.

TVXQ debuted as a five-member band in 2004 and enjoyed huge popularity both in Korea and Asia. After three members left the band in 2009, the remaining pair carried on as a duo.

Some 100 fans from China and Japan waited outside the hotel from early in the morning hoping to get a glimpse of their idols, remaining there until the pair left.

They plan to stage concerts in Seoul on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 and kick off their Japanese tour in November.
