US$15 Million Worth of Programs Sold at "BCWW 2005"

The "Fifth BCWW (Broadcast Worldwide) 2005", the largest broadcasting content show in the country, was held at the Convention & Exhibition Center (COEX) in Samseong-dong, Seoul for four days from Nov. 16 to 19.

The show was organized by Arirang, the international television broadcasting station under the Korea International Broadcasting Foundation. According to Arirang on Nov. 21, domestic enterprises sold US$15 million worth of broadcasting programs during this year's BCWW.

Major broadcasters and video content production companies from 32 countries participated in this year's event. This year's total sales showed an increase of US$2 million year-on-year.

The three domestic terrestrial television broadcasting stations posted a combined sales total of US$9 million, thanks to this year's rising popularity of TV dramas such as "A Love to Kill", "Lovers in Prague", and "My Name is Kim Sam-soon".

Arirang's "Pops In Seoul" was exported to enterprises in Hong Kong and Singapore. DocuKorea's "Real HD: Four Seasons - A 30-Part Documentary" was sold to an American cable TV company. Foreign visitors took great interest in programs from various genres, including entertainment, documentaries and animated films, that were produced in Korea.

As many as 3,500 people visited the exhibition hall during the entire event. About a quarter of the total visitors came from Pacific Rim countries, including Japan (210 visitors), China (180), the United States (97), Malaysia (71), Thailand (46) and Hong Kong (40).

This year's BCWW was hosted jointly by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Korean Broadcasting Commission. It was organized jointly by Arirang and the Korean Broadcasting Institute, and planned and managed by "Eight Peaks", a drama production and distribution agency.
