Winner of Cannes Says He's Happy About His Achievement

There was a red carpet welcome for Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, who returned to Korea after receiving the Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his hit movie 'Oldboy'.
Despair, anger and revenge were the main themes of 'Oldboy', a twisted tale of one man who goes on a violent rampage in an attempt to get even with his abductor after years of imprisonment.

Following rave reviews from critics and movie enthusiasts in Korea, director Park Chan-wook managed to woo the international audience at the 57th Cannes Film Festival by taking home the second most prestigious award, the Grand Prize of the Jury.

"It was an honor just to be there at the event, receiving a standing ovation from both film experts and the general audience, after the screening of 'Oldboy'. Such a reaction in itself was enough to make us feel like we had won a prize".

The Grand Prize of the Jury, according to the 41-year-old film auteur, is an award that goes to all the individuals involved in the production of the movie including those in front of the camera and behind the scenes, who worked days and nights for its success.

"I may have had the honor of going up to the stage to receive the award, but like I said before, it's a prize that goes to everyone involved".

Imagination is the name of the game and Park says in order for domestic productions to gain global recognition, filmmakers should focus on creating plotlines that stand out.
