'Oldboy': 'The Best Film Award' at the 37th Sitges International Film Festival of Catalonia

Director Park Chan-wook's 'Oldboy' has been selected as 'The Best Film Award' of the 37th Sitges International Film Festival of Catalonia that ended on Dec. 11.

The Sitges International Film Festival of Catalonia is one of major phantastic film festivals along with the Brussels Film Festival and The Fantas Porto Oporto International Film Festival etc.

In addition, Omnibus movie 'Three, Monster' which director Park took part in production, has been selected as 'The Best Make Up Award'.

Plot Summary for Oldboy (2003) is as follows: An average man is kidnapped and imprisoned in a hotel room for 15 years without explanation. He then is released, equipped with money, a cellphone and expensive clothes.

As he strives to explain his imprisonment and get his revenge, he soon finds out that not only his kidnapper has still plans for him, but that those plans will serve as the even worse finale to 15 years of imprisonment.

The Sitges festival is a specialized competitive festival which focuses on fantasy films. It has several sections, besides others the Fant?tic, Gran Angular and the Retrospectiva sections. The Fant?tic section is the only competitive one.

The festival takes place since 1968 and is competitive since 1971. The festival is acknowledged by the FIAPF.
