Bukchon Hanok Village - Where Traditional Korean Culture Comes Alive

While the appeal of K-Pop, dramas and other popular culture is a big attraction for many visitors to Korea, most are also eager to experience the county's traditional culture. In fact some 90% of overseas tourists visit places where they can experience traditional foods, arts, crafts, and more. In today's article we will take a stroll through Bukchon Hanok Village, one of Seoul's traditional neighborhoods where visitors can experience living traditional Korean culture.

Bukchon - meaning North Village - lies between Gyeongbok Palace, Changdeok Palace and Jongmyo Shrine in northern Seoul and is a traditional residential neighborhood. Considered a living museum due to is numerous historical landmarks, traditional houses (hanok), and arts and crafts, the district is a repository of the nation's cultural heritage where visitors can feel the history of Korea come alive.

<Where to Experience Traditional Korean Culture in Bukchon>

 Visitors to Bukchon can experience the living history of Korea in the form of its historical sites, arts and crafts, and cultural landmarks. There are also numerous galleries along Samcheongdong-gil, a street running along the length of Gyeongbokgung Palace's east wall, as well as cafes and eateries that provide relaxing spaces for visitors to sit enjoy the atmosphere.

In the neighborhood of Wonseo-dong, home to many traditional arts and crafts, tourists can see natural dyeing, traditional Korean clothes (Hanbok), accessories, embroidery and more.

In addition to participating in craft workshops, visitors to Bukchon Hanok Village can also enjoy Bukchon 8 Spots, a walking course of scenic views that weaves through the picturesque traditional neighborhood. Carefully selected by the City of Seoul as part of its effort to develop Bukchon into a cultural tourism center, each of the eight locations features a "Photo Spot" that offers the best view for taking photos. Bukchon 1st Spot provides sightseers with a panoramic view of Changdeok Palace, while the other seven each offer equally striking photo opportunities where visitors can capture memories to keep forever.
