Classic Animation Taekwon V Re-released

Korea's first feature-length science-fiction animation Robot Taekwon V (1976) returned to cinema screens after a copy was rediscovered and a two year period of restoration. The animation had a wide fan base among children in the seventies.

The print re-surfaced in 2003 and the Korean Film Council undertook the restoration project that would take two years. The print was in a poor condition and US$ 1 million was needed for the completion of the first digitally restored Korean film. Taekwon V is considered an important part of Korean culture. The film features a Korean hero, popular with generations of children.

Taekwon V is a flying robot who protects the world with his taekwondo skills against evil. The success of the animation resulted in sequels and spin-offs. More than 170 cinemas programmed the return of Taekwon V. The Classic animation film opened at place five over the weekend.
