Coming into the world of 5 million US dollars' native Korean fantasy animation!!

A company, Mago21 is in production teaming up with Busan Gyeongsung University.

A native Korean fantasy animation with a net investment of 5 million US dollars that is in production will be released at cinemas in November 2007 by Mago21 (Lee Jeong-ho CEO, President), which is renowned for the animations "Oseam" and "White Innocent Puppy Back-Gu".

Featuring love between family members through a 14-year-old girl's journey to the next world, the animation would add to the degree of completion by combining Korea's unique mythological characters and ideas about death and those (including animals) appearing in the nature and myths of Central Asia and India.

"People might think that main characters would put on Korea's traditional costume, Hanbok, in an animation on Korean myths. In fact, not only Hanbok but also other traditional clothes of countries such as India and Tibet will also be shown. The same will be true with the other nature or characters. Several unique, new elements which have both Korean and Asian characteristics will be introduced".

Mentioning that just sticking to Korean elements would rather act as an obstacle to entering into the global market, Mr. Lee Jung-Ho showed his strong intention to make the animation currently in process of production reflecting Asian sentiments including Central Asia, India even though it focuses on Korean-version subject matters.

That is one of the reasons why data collection and research for it took much longer time before production. And they are not yet finished.

Mago21, in partnership with PPC (Pre-Production & Creativity) Resource Center of Busan Gyeongsung University centering on CT Research Center, are still collecting data and doing research on the next world in Asian countries including Korea for the story, background and characters of the animation.

Professor Oh Jong-Hywan at the CT Research Center of Gyeongsung University said, "So far in Korea, in terms of producing animations in Korea, it was very rare to do enough research on core subject matters (resources), "For the animation, data collection and research are still being conducted on core resources by experts at universities and museums in Busan including Gyeongsung University who are in partnership with Mago21".

In the process, Mago21 set limits to the range of core resources necessary for producing the animation, and based on the data collected, keeps creating visuals related to episodes and characters by mobilizing its own pool of writers and designers.

The goal is to make Busan the research center on subject matters, the core part of the animation, and make Mago21, headed by Mr. Lee, the actual factory to develop designs and stories.

The animation by Mago21, with combined efforts among academia, research institutes and business in and around Busan, which is in line with KOCCA's CRC project, will receive a total of 1 billion won assistance fund from the agency over 3 years.

Seeing this world and the after world in a cyclical concept, thus not considering them in dichotomy, Mr. Lee plans to draw the next world in this work as a friendly space which we can easily come and go.

With the initial plan on design, characters, and major spaces, and 5 synopsis in completion, Mago21 has already signed a MOU for joint production of the animation with Media Cartoon Co. in Shanghai, China, and secured an investment of 2.5 billion won, about 50% of total production cost, from Toonivers.

However, another investment effort to make up for the rest of the production cost will yet start from March in both at home and abroad.
