Industry Representatives Expressed a Strong Commitment to Building Korea into a Leading Global Content Creator
Song Seung-heon and Girls' Generation Received a Commendation from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Recognition of their Contributions to Promoting Korean Culture Overseas A new year celebration event for content industry representatives was held at 6 pm on January 13, 2010 at the Contents Hall on the 2nd floor of Korea Creative Content Agency.
The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Yu In-chon) and jointly hosted by Korea Creative Content Agency (Chairman & CEO Lee Jae-woong), Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange (Chairman Kim Young-hoon) and Korea Copyright Commission(Chairman Lee Bo-kyung).
The event provided a forum for industry leaders to gather together and share a sense of unity as they expressed a strong commitment to building Korea into a global content producer.
The gathering was attended by more than 300 people including Yu In-chon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, lawmakers Na Gyeong-won, Jeon Byeong-heon, Lee Gyeong-jae, and Jin Seong-ho, Son Byeong-du, chairman of Korea Culture & Contents Industry Association, Kim U-ryong, chairman of Foundation for Broadcast Culture, Gil Jong-Seop, chairman of Korea Cable Television Association, Choe Jong-il, chairman of Korea Animation Producers Association, Jeong Seon-eon, chairman of Korea Independent Productions Association, and Byeon Dong-shik, CEO of CJ Media.
Minster Yu said in his opening remarks, "We should lay a firm foundation in 2010 on which Korea can be catapulted to the ranks of world's top 5 countries in terms of content production".
He also stressed, "To this end, we need to reach 3.8 billion dollars in content exports and 73 trillion won in content sales while offering a stable environment for investment in content, creating new markets for convergence content and undertaking specific actions to protect copyright". In particular, he pointed out, "the spread of Korean content on the back of the so-called "Korean Wave" has not only increased added value in the Korean content industry but also contributed to improving the global status and image of Korea", adding that people working in the content industry have played a critical role in the process. Finally, Minister Yu urged the industry representatives to redouble their efforts and take a strategic approach toward making further inroads into global markets.
As part of the event, actor Song Seung-heon and an idol girl group Girls' Generation were awarded a commendation by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism for their contributions to promoting the Korean Wave.
