Daum gets into the next generation TV portal services

Contents supply to the US game distributor is under discussion

Daum Communications Corp. (CEO Lee Jae-woong, http://www.daum.net ), South Korea's No. 2 Internet portal by revenue, announced on August 18 that the game contents supplied by a U.S.-based computer game developer, Oberon Media, Inc. ( http://www.oberon-media.com ) will be uploaded to the TV portal services being prepared at the moment.

Daum Communications owns and operates South Korea's second-largest Internet portal at Daum.net. The company provides e-mail, online shopping, entertainment offerings, and financial services. A computer game developer and publisher, Oberon Media distributes its products online via MSN, Internet chatting service provider ICQ, and other sites. Its titles include Bejeweled and Zuma.

Daum is paving the way for the era of TV portals, where contents and TV are combined, so that varied web contents including movies, games, music, magazines and media information can be interactively used on digital TV. With their contents business know-how as they have learned operating Internet portal for the last decade, Daum started preparing differentiated TV portal services.

Starting with the deal with Oberon Media, Daum will continuously ink a strategic deal with contents providers in various fields such as games, kids, music and broadcasting.

Jung Young Deok, in charge of TV portals of Daum, explained, "Several new services for video community, VolP(Voice over Internet Protocol) service free of charge, noreabang (karaoke in a private room) are being developed. Our know-how through running business for a decade will help us positioned as the market leader".
