Sales were expected to drop because of China's unofficial boycott of Korean goods and services over the deployment of a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense Battery from the U.S. here, but duty-free stores saw growth in sales due to the increase in domestic travelers.

Duty-free stores at Incheon posted combined sales of US$2.1 billion in 2017, up 4.1 percent from the previous year.

The airport took the top spot for a second straight year in terms of global sales. Dubai International Airport came second with sales of $1.93 billion.

The best-selling items were perfumes and cosmetics, with sales of $774 million, accounting for a third of the total.
