The historical film "The King And The Clown" directed by Lee Joon-ik and produced by Eagle Pictures and CineWorld topped 10 million viewers nationwide as of 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 11.

An official from the film distribution agency Cinema Service said on Feb. 12, "The film has attracted a total of 10,068,989 viewers as of Feb. 11 across the nation, with the moviegoers in Seoul numbering 2,973,936".

This was the third box-office hit film to exceed the 10 million viewer mark, following "Silmido" (2003), which hit 10 million viewers on Feb. 19, 2004, and "Taegukgi: Brotherhood of War" (2003), which achieved the record on Mar. 14, 2004.

After the release of "The King And The Clown" on Dec. 28, 2005, when it attracted 90,000 viewers, it took a mere 46 days for the film to reach this box-office record.

Cinema Service said, "We expect the film to attract many more viewers for the time being, considering that it is being shown at a total of 278 screens nationwide, with 59 screens in Seoul alone, as of Feb. 12".

"Silmido" and "Taegukgi: Brotherhood of War" topped the 10 million viewer mark in 58 days and 39 days, respectively, after their release dates. The total number of viewers of those films was 11.08 million for "Silmido" and 11.74 million for "Taegukgi".
