Lee and Kim are playing the match to promote baduk and "encourage charitable giving", Kim's agency said on Tuesday.

The match is to take place between June 28 and 30 depending on weather in the windswept outlying islets that have long been coveted by Japan.

Kim, an amateur 6th dan, first met Lee a few years ago and has been working as promotional ambassador for the Korea Baduk Association since late last year.

He worked as a guest TV commentator during Lee's matches against Google DeepMind's proto-artificial intelligence program AlphaGo in March.

The upcoming match will be a mixed double with Kim and Lee each paired with a female player.

All the prize money from the sponsors will be donated to charity.
