The last few weeks have seen Korea's box office figures soar thanks to two seafaring delights: Kim Han-min's epic "Admiral" and Lee Seok-hoon's "Pirates". The last weekend of August, however, saw a slight return to normalcy as ticket sales sunk in the wake of Kim and Lee's period powerhouses coming down from their profitable reigns at the top.

Last weekend Lee's "Pirates" stole first from "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" with 951K, with Kim's naval strategist following close behind it with 802K. "Pirates" second term at the top, however, yielded just 620K (25.5%) while "The Admiral" was bumped down to third with 333K (13.7%). Together these two action attractions have amassed nearly 24M admissions and are still going around scooping up survivors as the new season is ushered in.

The highest of the foreign flicks was Steven Quale's "Into the Storm", a 'found footage' disaster film starring Richard Armitage that follows a group of high school students who get stuck and sweep away in a car when a tornado threatens. The film claim 613K admissions (25.3%) over 585 screens to secure second place, and was followed in third by "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" which now moves its record-breaking tally to 16.9M ($128.4M).

The American musical drama "Begin Again" followed in fourth with 281K (12.1%), and the action comedy "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" finally arrived on Korean shores and found fifth place with 259K (11.45). Thus far the "Ninja Turtles" reboot has grossed over $274M worldwide, which is move than double the $125M it took to realise. Last weekend Josh Boone's "The Fault in Our Stars" entered in second place with 166K to its name, but its second weekend out in Korea saw it slip to sixth with just 78.9K (3.3%). Camille Delamarre's remake of the 2004 French disaster film "District 13" (titled "Brick Mansion") occupied seventh having earned the attention of over 33K filmgoers.

The only other Korean film to crack a top ten finished was Sim Seong-bo's "Haemoo" (aka "Haemoo"). The film entered the fray on the 13th of last month and has since amassed a totally ticket tally of 1.4M. This past weekend Sim's depiction of a real-life seafaring tragedy claimed 30.8K (1.3%) over 247 screens to bring its bottom line to $11.3M. Rounding out this past weekend's top ten came "The Purge: Anarchy" (24K) and the animated sequel "Planes: Fire & Rescue" (19K).
