Novelty coffee shops have been popping up around the capital for some years now, but these rare animal cafes are taking it to the next level: "Most of the cafes are owned by enthusiasts who began raising the animals at home as pets, but decided to open a shop when their numbers got out of hand". Raccoon Cafe in Hongdae, for example, has eight North American racoons and around a dozen dogs; and the recently opened Meerkat Friends has 18 South African meerkats, a wallaby, some foxes and a cat!
