[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Man-hole" Episode 16 (final)

Despite the dip below 2.0% in ratings according the Nielsen Korea, the last two episodes were actually the strongest of "Man-Hole"'s run. Pacing was brisk, characters had direction, and a few answers were delivered. Sadly, a few interesting elements were only pulled in during the last episodes, but it is what it is.

My number one regret for this show is that it didn't use the manhole better. The last week saw Pil and Soo-jin traveling together, which was quite exciting. That could've made the apprehension of Jae-hyun much more intriguing, or it could've branched out into something completely new. There is so much opportunity once more than one person goes through the manhole. Also, I was right and the aliens did have something to do with the manhole! They made a wormhole to study human love and have now assigned Goo-gil as their next test subject. Perhaps that was the reason for the ambiguous relationships between him, Jung-ae, and Dal-soo.

In the end though, "Man-Hole" was wrapped up a bit too easily. Jae-hyun is getting mental help, but his crazy ex comes to join him, giving him a really neatly tied up ending and lessening the horrors that he inflicted. Why couldn't Pil and Soo-jin have investigated his past crimes and had him apprehended properly?

After Pil and Soo-jin get together, they live in fear of the manhole pulling them through time again, which was a great follow up to the entire time travel saga. It was so good to see them happy together that I think they should've gotten together earlier and use the manhole for something else. Jumping to her wedding day could've happened earlier so we could get that bit of cute cheesiness out of the way and bite into something more meaty for the last part of the show.

Overall, I was not impressed with "Man-Hole". It was overacted and choppy in execution both by those on screen and behind it. Music choice was often jarring. Mostly though, it was the rambling storyline and the flip flopping characters that made it hard to follow. But mine is one opinion. What did you all think of "Man-Hole"?
