[HanCinema's Drama Review] "That Man Oh Soo" Episode 4

Of the many random chance meetings Oh Soo and Yoo-ri get into, one of them actually results in their relationship progressing beyond mild mutual annoyance. Oh Soo discovers that Yoo-ri likes cats. Apparently Oh Soo likes cats too. How cute! I also like cats! Unfortunately Ga-na then manages to sabotage that moment and we're right back where we started, with Oh Soo and Yoo-ri always being in the same place at the same time and resenting each other for it.

We do finally get more exposition about the second leads. Jin-woo is a generally cool guy and Yoo-ri likes hanging out with him. Also, Hyo-jin (played by Yeonseo), the woman who Oh Soo accidentally approached in the cafe, turns out to be a potential investor. At least I think it was an accident. We don't see Man-soo here, so no one is able to talk to him about the blind date and clear that matter up. It may be awhile before Oh Soo, Yoo-ri, and Man-soo are all in the same room together.

So what else does "That Man Oh Soo" do that has nothing to do with plot? Well, Yoo-ri fights a bunch of people. I thought that was pretty funny. Although mainly, I just appreciate how Yoo-ri doesn't need anyone to come rescue her. I mean, naturally, Oh Soo and Jin-woo show up eventually because they're good guys who intervene when they see fights breaking out. That's because the purpose of these scenes is to show that they are good guys.

And incidentally we also get to see that Yoo-ri is capable and competent in a variety of situations. As much as I like having a heroine who can take care of herself, I must confess some slight annoyance that Yoo-ri doesn't really have any goals more complicated than just solving whatever crimes happens to be physically occurring nearby to wherever she is. Yoo-ri does at least have a mother (played by Kim Ho-jung) who is in the hospital.

Although Oh Soo is probably the character who actually needs a goal. If Man-soo can't heal the tree anymore, that's a pretty big deal and Oh Soo really needs to get to work on his own healing powers. Instead he just talks to Hyo-jin about investments, and randomly runs into Yoo-ri a few times. At what point is anything actually going to happen in this drama? Why are there so many potential story elements, but no actual story?
