[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Voice" Episode 9

Just past the midway mark and we finally get some insight into Hyeon-ho. Unfortunately that insight comes as a contrived threat. So far each cop on our Golden Time team has had such a threat. But we'll run with it and watch Yesung star in an episode.

With very little on our killer save for the fact that he is backed by very powerful people, the kind of powerful that controls police commissioners, our story turns towards nefarious happenings around the Golden Time team. As of yet I'm unsure whether or not this ties into our central intrigue or not. We know what Mo Tae-gook is not happy with the success of Golden Time. Perhaps this attack on Hyeon-ho was an attempt to break apart the team that has just barely come together.

While the attack on Hyeon-ho was a little weak plotwise, I did like that Hyeon-ho got to show skills as a policeman and that we got to see personalities emerge in both him and Eun-soo. After Hyeon-ho, we only have Dae-sik left to explore, Jin-hyeok's faithful partner who is treated more like a sidekick in terms of development and plot. Dae-sik only shows up when the plot needs him. Give him more, production team! The character, the actor, and the viewers deserve it.

There was a hint that Jin-hyeok's sorely neglected hospitalized son would soon be dragged into the central conceit. We've seen little of this plot thread save for Jin-hyeok as an absent but loving father, and his son as a strong but sad boy. I don't see the show delving into the family issues much. Again, this seem to just be a tool for the show to kick the characters into action.

Onto episode 10 where we will see the fate of Eun-soo and Hyeon-ho's career in law enforcement.
