[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Woman with a Suitcase" Episode 13

The battle between Golden Tree and Oh Sung escalates to new highs. Hye-joo completely crosses over to the dark side, Bok-geo is convicted, and Geum-joo is forced to choose between her career and safety and defending those she has sworn to protect.

More intriguing than Geum-joo this episode is Hye-joo, who has completely fallen off the deep end with the pressures put on her by Oh Sung. She looks and behaves like an utter mess. This is not just falling to the bottom, it is crashing. Even patient Geum-joo has had enough of her and seems to turn her back on her younger sister. From what we've seen of Geum-joo, this won't be permanent, but it is certainly not hard to blame her. Hye-joo has been very difficult to relate to despite the detailing of her difficult upbringing. Each decision she has made has been poor and the outcomes of those decisions rest on her shoulders.

There is a villain, the man with the lollipops, who is a "janitor" for the rich. He kills, manipulates, and does all sorts of unsavory things to keep the rich seeming pristine as they do wrong because it benefits them. His character seems a bit too wonderful at his job, making Oh Sung seem overly simplistic and reliant on this glorified hit man. Also, Ye-ryeong, the chaebol woman who is behind all of the wrong that has happened in "Woman with a Suitcase" is the only one of the Oh Sung group to make a large appearance. In such a large, competitive family and family business its a copout for the show to only focus on one person. What about the rest of the family and business? Are they just sitting around? They were brought in several times, and silenced several others, but that doesn't mean they won't remain active. This oversight is gross, but typical of legal dramas

I am glad that this episode brought in another case for Geum-joo to work on despite the fact that its related to Bok-geo's case. It is Min-ah's case, the homeless girl who Bok-geo saved and took in. During the course of the drama this plot thread has quietly woven through, but has mostly been on the back burner without much development. Now it comes to light and ruffles the feathers of the Oh Sung people enough to start making threats on Geum-joo's life. With all the dark deeds that Oh Sung does including murder and bribing court officials, I'm hoping they come to justice soon, for Geum-joo's sake.
