Yoon Jong-bin is the director of the project. He's known for the crime film "Nameless Gangster" from 2012 as well as spy films such as "The Berlin File" from 2013 and "The Spy Gone North" from 2018. Yoon Jong-bin claimed that much of the difficulties involved in making "Narco-Saints" stemmed from travel problems caused by COVID-19. Nevertheless, Yoon Jong-bin promised that the story was so good that a person would want to finish it all in one sitting.

"Narco-Saints" is based on a real-life incident wherein a Korean national was arrested in Suriname in 2011 on charges of being a drug kingpin. Ha Jung-woo was the person involved who had the idea for the project and pushed hard for it, persuading his collaborators and eventually Netflix to take the story on. However, Ha Jung-woo's character is not the drug lord, but a civilian businessman who gets wrapped up in his schemes.

Hwang Jung-min plays the drug lord, and claimed there were a number of exhilirating scenes because all of the actors carefully prepared their parts for maximum impact. Park Hae-soo, who plays a spy, said that the story transcends genres due to the constant speculation enforced about what the characters really want in any given scene and whether or not they're lying. "Narco-Saints" will premiere on Netflix this coming September 9th.
