[HanCinema's News] "The Boys" Outperforms Korean Competition in Opening Day at Box Office

The detective drama "The Boys" has eked out a minor success in its opening day at the South Korean box office, earning 38,866 admissions. Added to early admissions, "The Boys" now has 57,433 admissions. This was enough for the Sol Kyung-gu led film to outperform "Brave Citizen" in third place and "Love Reset" in fourth place. It may yet overtake The Boy and the Heron over the weekend, with the Hayao Miyazaki film earning only 49,298 admissions at the starts of its second weekend.

Early reactions to "The Boys" have been quite promising, with consumer-recorded data on CGV's website showing viewers with a 95% approval rating in regard to the introspective weekend. But even if "The Boys" should win the weekend box office, it is unlikely to have staying power next week as The Marvels is already showing strong numbers in early reservations. "The Boys" is the first film from director Chung Ji-young since "Black Money" back in 2019.
