[HanCinema's News] "The Woman in the White Car" Makes World Premiere at BiFan

On July 10th, "The Woman in the White Car" made its first screening at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan), which is being held in Bucheon from July 7th to July 17th this year. The project was originally conceived as a short, two part drama on JTBC. However, "The Woman in the White Car" was reedited into a film format to submit for inclusion at BiFan, due to the belief in the strength of the project as well as its more cinematic qualities.

"The Woman in the White Car" takes place in a Rashomon style format. The opening of the film depicts two women, one of whom is seriously injured, coming out of a white car. The two women are bestselling author Do-kyung, played by Jung Ryeo-won, and her older sister Mi-kyeong, played by Jang Jin-hee. The trouble begins when Mi-kyeong brings a man to their home, Jung-man, who is played by Kang Jung-woo- a man with alleged violent tendencies, prompting an escape.

Lee Jung-eun of "Parasite" fame plays the police officer who attempts to get at the truth of what happened. "The Woman in the White Car" has been received positively by audiences at BiFan, who were impressed by the film's serious discussion of familial violence and the blurry way it embeds itself in memory. "The Woman in the White Car" is also an example of BiFan's push for more women-oriented features. All three leads, as well as director Christine Ko and scriptwriter Seo Ja-yeon, are women.
