Hong Kong chooses the 'Prologue to "Jewel in the Palace"' ("Dae Jang Geum")

'A Prologue to "Jewel in the Palace"' ("Dae Jang Geum"), a Hong Kong TV program aired to help viewers better understand the Korean TV drama 'Jewel in the Palace', was chosen as one of the best programs in Hong Kong.

The Korean Consulate General in Hong Kong announced on March 19 that the Hong Kong government-managed broadcasting company RTHK selected 'A Prologue to "Jewel in the Palace"' ("Dae Jang Geum") in its annual TV Program of the Year as the best entertainment program.

Produced by TVB, 'A Prologue..'. is a three-to-five-minute program aired to help viewers have a better understanding of the Korean TV drama 'Jewel in the Palace' ("Dae Jang Geum"), which was broadcast early last year. In the program, Hong Kong actress Bao Yi, Lam visits Korea and introduces Korean history and culture to Hong Kong viewers.

'A Prologue..'. not only has contributed to the 50% rating of 'Jewel in the Palace', the highest rating in Hong Kong TV broadcasting history, but is also considered to have played a key role in triggering the Korean Syndrome in Hong Kong while simultaneously introducing Korean history and culture to the Hong Kong viewers.

Julian Lee, producer of 'A Prologue..'., and Edmund Lee, writer, accepted the award at a special ceremony on March 17 from Cho Hwan-Bok, Korean Consul in Hong Kong, and Vivian Lee, a Hong Kong actress.

Since 1998, RTHK has been giving awards to the 20 best programs based on rating surveys, in which the four Hong Kong broadcasting channels and cable channels are divided into four categories, namely retrospective, informational, news, and entertainment. More than 2,000 viewers participate in the survey every quarter.
