[Hot Takes from the Noonas] Running Man Meltdown

"Running Man" fans should be running for the hills, as Song Ji-hyo and Kim Jong-kook are unceremoniously shown the door.

In a shakeup that no one saw coming (except maybe Gary, who departed a few months ago), two of the most popular "Running Man" cast members were turfed out, in what seems to be a misguided bid to boost sagging ratings. I'm not a huge fan of "Running Man", but even I'm a little shocked that Song Ji-hyo had to hear the news from the media. At least, the producers had the courtesy to fire Kim Jong-kook in person.

To make matters worse, replacement cast member Kang Ho-dong backed out upon hearing the news of the firings, not wanting to add his name to the brewing controversy. Anyway, given the international success of Kang Ho-dong's Korean barbecue chain, maybe he just didn't need the hassle.

My advice to the producers: Instead of engaging in last-minute firings of beloved stars, maybe try something new with the format first? Or shorten the 80-minute running time (no pun intended)?
