Hyundai's Hydrogen Fuel Cell SUV Starts Gaining Ground

Sales of Hyundai's second-generation hydrogen fuel cell SUV Nexo have passed 1,000 units so far this year. It is the first time Hyundai has reached the milestone since it started commercially manufacturing hydrogen fuel cell cars in 2013.

Hyundai said Sunday that a total of 1,075 Nexos were sold as of last week since the beginning of the year with 767 in the domestic market and 308 abroad.

Nexo can drive 609 km per charge, the farthest of any hydrogen fuel cell car in the world. It was released in April last year and sold 949 units by the year's end.

Its sales have been picking up due to a combination of factors -- a growing trend in favor of eco-friendly cars, a government subsidy and the expansion of infrastructure.
