I.O.I's Hidden Message for the Fans

Korea's national girl group "I.O.I" released their final song as a unit on last Wednesday (10/26). I have this song on repeat every day since the release and I think I have developed yet another I.O.I addiction!

The title song is called "Very Very Very" - which, about half of the lyrics is a repetition of the title. Three words to describe my first impression on the music video would be: Energetic, fun, and a tint of nostalgia. The popping colors and the vibrant energy of the girls will enchant you throughout the video yet there's this subtle nostalgic feeling in the song. I couldn't quite understand at first why I felt that way since the concept of the video was all about the bubbly, joyful vibes.

Finally, the mystery was solved when I came across a blog article about "Very Very Very". This I.O.I fan blogger wrote about his discovery of the hidden message behind the lyrics. For those who know how the group I.O.I came to be (In case you don't, go ahead and catch up on the K-show "Produce 101".), you would be well-aware of the fact that this is a project group and will be dismissed on January 31st, 2017.

Lyrics of this catchy song is about how girls should be cautious not to fall in love so easily. In the 2nd half of the song though, there's a little message for I.O.I fans who will miss them dearly.

"Oh no, I'm sorry but your heart that is for me, can't you show me a little more?

When you like me very very very(x4) very much, then tell me

When you keep keep keep(x4) keep thinking of me, then call me

I hope you understand, even if it makes you upset or frustrated.

I hope you'll wait for me a little more after my heart opens,

all of my feelings that I saved up I will give to you without holding back".

The blogger writes about his thought on I.O.I's message to us, their plea for the support and "heart" as the time is running out. Many fans have been "upset" and "frustrated" about I.O.I's expected dismissal. They hope that the fans will wait for them to return.

It's uncertain if these lovely 11 girls can ever come back to the stage as the complete I.O.I. but the good news is that we will be seeing these girls in different part of the entertainment business. It is confirmed that Sejung and Mina is in the girl group "Gugudan", Yeonjung in the girl group "WJSN", Jung Chae-yeon in the girl group "DIA". Jung Chae-yeon will build her actress career along with the singing job, since she debuted in the drama "Drinking Alone" in September. Sohye is also expected to be seen more in acting scenes rather than as a singer since she was training to be an actress to begin with.

The sad farewell to the national group I.O.I is nearing but we will continue to cheer them on until the very end and even after their dismissal. We will keep calling for them and wait patiently for their return.
